Innovation in Built Environment Education (iBEE) is CHOBE’s flagship conference series, bringing together educators, researchers, professional bodies and industry leaders to explore the future of learning, teaching and professional development across the built environment. Organised by the Council of Heads of the Built Environment (CHOBE) in collaboration with the Associated Schools of Construction (ASC) and CIB W089 – Building Education and Research, iBEE provides a forum for sharing innovative practice, strengthening links between academia and industry, and addressing the challenges and opportunities shaping construction, property and surveying education.
The conference is designed to encourage collaboration and the exchange of ideas through keynote presentations, interactive workshops, research papers and practitioner-led discussions. Across recent editions, delegates have explored themes including digital transformation, artificial intelligence, professional education, skills development, student engagement, accreditation, and the evolving needs of the built environment workforce. iBEE aims to showcase excellent and innovative interdisciplinary practice, promote new thinking, and connect participants with leading educators and industry innovators.
Recent conferences have featured contributions from senior leaders at RICS, alongside presentations on topics such as responsible AI integration in built environment curricula, competition-based learning in higher education, student belonging in hybrid learning environments, admissions and widening participation, and the future direction of professional education. By bringing together diverse perspectives from across the sector, iBEE continues to serve as a catalyst for educational innovation and a platform for shaping the future of built environment learning.
The most recent iBEE conference was in September 2026, the “Technical & Professional Education: Opportunities & Future Directions” conference, hosted by RICS.
